Invitation to FameLab Poland 2026 competition

We warmly encourage you to submit your applications for the national final of FameLab Poland 2026, which will take place on 8–9 June 2026 in Katowice.

FameLab is one of Europe’s leading events dedicated to science communication, with the United Kingdom — and the Cheltenham Science Festival — at its heart. The task facing FameLab Poland finalists — students, doctoral school candidates, and PhD holders — will be to captivate both the jury and the audience with their scientific passion in just three minutes.

Applications

Applications for the national final of FameLab Poland 2026 are open until 10 May 2026.

In the first stage, an international jury will select the semi-finalists from among all submitted candidates. On 8–9 June 2026, they will take part in an expert training programme in science communication, led by European specialists.

The national final of FameLab will be held on 9 June 2026 in Katowice, where the finalists will present their research projects. The winner of FameLab Poland will represent Poland at the global FameLab final, which will take place in December 2026 during the 10th Silesian Science Festival Katowice.

Cash prizes with a total value of at least PLN 20,000 will be awarded to the top three participants.

A global phenomenon

FameLab was launched in 2005 in Cheltenham, UK, as part of the local science festival — and quickly won the hearts of audiences around the world.

Local editions of the competition have been organised in more than 30 countries across all continents, with over 40,000 participants taking to the stage. Today, the event is held in countries including the Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, Malaysia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.

In Poland, FameLab was organised from 2012 to 2021 by the British Council Foundation in cooperation with the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw. During that time, nearly 650 participants applied to take part in the Polish edition — many of whom went on to become outstanding science communicators.

The University of Silesia has decided to continue this tradition and bring the Polish edition of FameLab back, inviting young researchers to Katowice — the European City of Science.
