Aim of studies

Architecture is the field of study that combines the knowledge and skills of designing and shaping the plastic, artistic and aesthetic qualities of buildings. It is also the science of embedding building compositions in the space we live in.

As part of our studies we prepare you – the future bachelor in architecture – for such tasks as:

developing building designs by yourself,


reconstruction, modernisation and adaptation of buildings,


exercising control over the implementation of projects,


solving structural and engineering problems related to building design.

A degree in Architecture at UTA is the basis for automatic recognition of professional qualifications. This allows you to practice this prestigious profession, regulated by EU law, in all EU countries! You can find more information in the European Union’s database of legal acts.

During your studies you will use modern studios, among others: Architectural Design, Virtual Building Design and Landscape Design. The studios are equipped with computers, graphic tablets, 3D manipulators. As an UTA Student you will also have the opportunity to use many professional programmes for free.

Admission requirements

Architecture is a program that combines knowledge and skills in designing and shaping the artistic and aesthetic qualities of buildings. Its aim is also to embed the compositional arrangements of the construction.

Admission to the Bachelor’s degree program in Architecture at UTA is based on the assessment of the artwork portfolio.

The portfolio should consist of between 5 and 10 works in at least A3 format, made in pencil, including:

  • 3 drawings representing architecture,
  • 2 drawings representing compositions of simple geometric shapes, equipment, and textiles.

A portfolio with artwork should be uploaded to the online recruitment system apply.wseiz.pl or submitted in person to the Rector’s Office. Works uploaded to the recruitment system should be saved in pdf, jpg, or tiff format.

The portfolio should be accompanied by a statement that the work submitted was produced independently.

The works will be assessed by the admissions committee on their ability to use perspective, observation of chiaroscuro, proportion, and detail.

Scope of studies
By studying Architecture (first degree, engineering studies) at UTA, you will gain practical and theoretical knowledge of:

creating architectural designs that meet aesthetic, ecological, as well as technical requirements,

history, theory of architecture, related arts, technology, environmental protection and humanities,

urban design and the skills needed for the planning process,

the relationship between people and buildings and between buildings and their surroundings, as well as the relationship: buildings and space between them and human needs,

the profession of architect and his social role, especially when developing concepts for the design by taking into account social factors,

methods of collecting information,

structural design, constructional and engineering problems related to building design,

physical, technical and computer problems, as well as the knowledge of the functioning of buildings in order to provide them with appropriate external conditions and protection against climate influence,

design in order to meet the requirements of buildings within the constraints imposed by cost factors and building regulations,

economics, management, regulations and procedures for processing design concepts in the construction of buildings and the integration of projects throughout the planning process,

adequate preparation for contracting for architectural-construction works, building supervision and ancillary work related to creative urban planning and architectural design of buildings.

Thanks to the comprehensive education and the prestige that is associated with this profession, architects with the UTA diploma find employment in architectural studios, architecture and urban planning departments of local government administration at all levels: municipal, county and provincial. They are employed in conservation studios and construction companies. They work in the organisation of exhibitions and fairs, stage design, advertising agencies. They are also sought after employees abroad.

At the field of Architecture, the first semester of studies is a test of aptitude for the profession. Suitability is tested in the following subjects:

drawing and painting (laboratory classes),

basics of architectural design (projects),

descriptive geometry (projects).

The curriculum of the studies provides for three rigours, two of which must be passed within the statutory time limit (completion of projects and laboratory exercises in classes of a given subject or in a retake session) in order to continue studying Architecture.
